The European Beer Star competition has been organised by the association Private Brauereien since 2004. It has long become one of the most important beer competitions in the world. European Beer Star prizes are awarded to high quality beers, which are genuine and full of character. Consideration is given to types of beer which have their origins in Europe. Any brewery in the world can take part: breweries with local, regional, interregional and international operations are eligible, not only from Europe, but also from all countries on every continent. Thus all those which brew their beers in the traditional, European way.

About European Beer Star
European Beer Star is a prestigious competition that focuses on sustainability in the brewing industry. The brand offers the Future Award to breweries that demonstrate exemplary and sustainable corporate governance. This includes factors such as energy efficiency, local raw material supply, and employee satisfaction, in addition to product quality.
The competition serves as motivation for breweries to take sustainable action and contribute to a better world. The final jury is comprised of sustainability researchers, media representatives, and beer experts. The evaluation criteria are based on the United Nations' 17 Sustainable Development Goals and cover various categories, including energy, water, climate protection, regional value creation, and quality management.
Participating breweries go through a registration process, fill out a questionnaire, and undergo pre-selection and blind tasting rounds to determine the winners. The winners of the European Beer Star Future Award 2022 were Neumarkter Lammsbräu, Brauerei-Gasthof Kundmüller, and Westerwald Brauerei. Congratulations to these breweries for their commitment to sustainability!
