About European Microfinance Network
European Microfinance Network (EMN) is a not-for-profit organization based in Brussels that aims to fight social and financial exclusion in Europe through microfinance. They promote the use of microfinance as a tool for self-employment and the creation of microenterprises. EMN facilitates capacity building and advocates on behalf of the microfinance sector.
Their core members are microfinance practitioners, which are organizations that provide financial services to underserved individuals or facilitate access to such services. They also receive support from partners and corporate members such as national networks, academia, service providers, and banks. EMN recognizes the diverse nature of microfinance in different European countries and strives to represent the sector's interests and speak with one voice.
They are always eager to collaborate with microfinance and social inclusion specialists who can contribute to research, studies, and training sessions. EMN was launched in 2003 and has since transferred its activities to Belgium. Their mission is to advocate for transparency and good governance in the European microfinance sector while promoting best practices and research.
They envision a society where individuals excluded by the traditional banking system have access to a comprehensive range of financial and support services to improve their lives. The organization is governed by a board of directors, and key figures such as Laure Coussirat-Coustère, Dominique De Crayencour, Andrea Limone, and Svetlana Roganovic play crucial roles in driving EMN's mission forward
