About European Payments Council
The European Payments Council (EPC) is an international non-profit association based in Brussels that works to harmonise electronic payments across the Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA). It brings together payment-sector stakeholders and manages payment schemes designed to support consistent, standards-based transactions across participating countries.
The EPC develops and maintains schemes for SEPA Credit Transfer, SEPA Instant Credit Transfer, SEPA Direct Debit, and One-Leg Out Instant Credit Transfer. Its activities also cover services and initiatives such as SEPA Request-to-Pay, SEPA Payment Account Access, Verification of Payee, the EPC Directory Service, and fraud prevention and payment security. The organisation publishes scheme rulebooks and participation information, supports new participants, and provides resources including registers, statistics, guidance, and public consultations. It also engages with stakeholders through news, webinars, and other opportunities to contribute to payment-sector developments. Through this work, the EPC helps coordinate payment practices and infrastructure across Europe, supporting the continued evolution of electronic payments in SEPA.
