EURO-PERISTAT is a pivotal initiative dedicated to monitoring and evaluating maternal and child health throughout the perinatal period in Europe, encompassing pregnancy, childbirth, and postnatal care. Founded in 1999 as part of the EU's Health Monitoring Programme, the network has evolved to include representation from 31 countries and comprises a vast network of experts. The project's primary objective is to establish a comprehensive European perinatal information system that produces reliable data and analysis for national and international stakeholders involved in policymaking for mothers and newborns.

EURO-PERISTAT offers various publications, including the European Perinatal Health Reports, which provide insights based on core indicators derived from data collected across multiple countries. Additionally, the project is actively involved in scientific research that informs best practices in perinatal health, such as recent studies on caesarean section rates. Funded by the European Commission and coordinated by Inserm, the project also participates in collaborative efforts like the PHIRI project, aimed at enhancing health reporting and research evidence across Europe.
