EuroSea

EuroSea is a pioneering initiative aimed at enhancing and integrating European ocean observing and forecasting systems to promote sustainable ocean use. Established under the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation program, the project brought together key stakeholders in oceanographic research and service users to develop innovative solutions.

Running from November 2019 to December 2023, EuroSea focuses on three main demonstrators: operational services, ocean health, and climate indicators. The operational services demonstrator improves the collection and interpretation of sea level data, while the ocean health demonstrator collaborates with stakeholders in aquaculture and fisheries to develop tools for predicting extreme marine events. Additionally, the climate indicators demonstrator evaluates the ocean's role in climate change, assessing the economic value of ocean carbon sinks.

Through knowledge transfer, enhanced data sharing, and public awareness, EuroSea aims to innovate and optimize the ocean observing value chain, strengthening both European and global ocean observation efforts.
