Even Mermaids Get Leukemia

Even Mermaids Get Leukemia, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to helping childhood cancer survivors reconnect with childhood after treatment. Founded by Hannah Soderstrom, the organization grew from a Facebook community page created in 2016 to share updates during her experience with acute lymphoblastic leukemia. Hannah’s challenges transitioning back to everyday life after treatment inspired her to establish the nonprofit and support other young survivors facing a similar adjustment.

The organization helps survivors who completed treatment within the previous year take part in a local activity of their choice, such as music lessons, swimming lessons, or a Taekwondo class. Families can submit the child’s name, preferred activity, and a parent’s contact information; the organization will then assess whether it can help. When support is provided, funds are paid directly to the chosen recreation provider.

Even Mermaids Get Leukemia is funded through private donations, foundation grants, and corporate contributions, and donations are tax-deductible as allowed by law.
