EventStars Ltd is a New Zealand Thoroughbred rehoming and retraining operation founded by Gina Lee Schick more than 20 years ago. Based in Kaipaki near Cambridge, the business was established to provide riders with reasonably priced young horses while helping address the number of racehorses retiring without homes. Today, EventStars primarily works with Hong Kong Restart horses through the Hong Kong Jockey Club’s Retired Racehorse Retraining Programme.
In partnership with the club, the team brings horses to New Zealand, continues their retraining and matches them with sport or pleasure homes for a second career. EventStars also occasionally rehomes local Thoroughbreds. The operation rehomes approximately 300 or more off-the-track Thoroughbreds each year, with some progressing to high-level competition.
