About Explosion
Explosion is a pioneering software company located in Berlin, Germany, known for its expertise in developing tools and tailored solutions in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Natural Language Processing (NLP). The company is best known for creating spaCy, a leading open-source library that supports advanced NLP functionalities. In addition to spaCy, Explosion offers Prodigy, an intelligent annotation tool, and Ellf, a virtual assistant designed for agentic NLP development.
Founded by Matthew Honnibal and Ines Montani, Explosion prioritizes developer experiences by emphasizing custom models and transparent tools over traditional boxed solutions. The company is independent and bootstrapped, focusing on sustainable growth and stability rather than aggressive venture funding. With a commitment to accessibility, Explosion is dedicated to providing valuable open-source software that enhances both developer and user experiences. Their approach ensures that customers have ownership of the tools they use, reflecting a belief that great AI should not be a mystery but a practical resource for developers and businesses alike.
