The Eyabantwana Trust is an independent non-profit organisation established in 2013 to support the Department of Paediatric Surgery in East London, based at Frere and Cecilia Makiwane Hospitals. Its mission is to improve children’s lives through better surgical care, one operation at a time. The Trust serves children from across the Eastern Cape, including patients who travel long distances to reach treatment, in a province where financial constraints can restrict improvements to healthcare services.
Its work focuses on helping develop a sustainable children’s surgical service. Funds and sponsorships support the acquisition of surgical instruments, medical equipment, supplies, information technologies and devices. The Trust also contributes to facility refurbishment aimed at improving standards of care, and to education, staff training and provincial outreach programmes. Fundraising initiatives, including the Grandads Army Memorial Ride, help generate support for these priorities.
By strengthening resources for paediatric surgery, Eyabantwana seeks to make a lasting difference for children and families.
