About Eye Corps
Eye Corps is a registered non-profit organization based in Tanzania, with a mission to combat cataract blindness by supporting cataract services within the country. Founded in 2017, Eye Corps is a 501(c)(3) organization working towards reducing blindness by providing comprehensive eye care, including cataract surgeries and glasses, to those in need. As a non-profit, Eye Corps focuses on building sustainable eye care in rural sub-Saharan Africa.
They collaborate with local eye care providers and academic ophthalmic training institutions to maximize the impact of in-country professionals. This involves providing necessary equipment, continued medical education, and mentorship to enhance the capacity for high-quality eyecare services. Eye Corps also partners with the leading postgraduate ophthalmology program in Tanzania to improve training through the support of US lecturers and educational tools.
By addressing barriers such as inadequate training, lack of support for graduates, and limited surgical equipment, Eye Corps aims to create a stable surgical community in Tanzania and other sub-Saharan countries, ultimately eliminating cataract and refractive blindness
