The Functional Annotation of Animal Genomes (FAANG) Consortium is an international research community focused on understanding how genome function influences observable traits in farmed animals. Since 2015, its work has aimed to clarify the genotype-to-phenotype link, supporting research into how genetic information relates to characteristics across diverse animal populations. FAANG coordinates efforts to standardize core assays and experimental protocols, helping researchers generate comparable and useful data.

It also facilitates data sharing through its Data Portal and works to establish infrastructure for data analysis. The consortium has outlined research priorities for the coming decade in its FAANG to Fork strategy, which seeks to connect genotype and phenotype in varied animal populations and use innovative technologies to model those relationships at the cell, tissue, and whole-animal levels. Rather than offering commercial products, FAANG provides shared research resources, coordination, data access, and scientific frameworks intended to advance functional genomics and animal science.
