Families for Freedom is a powerful organization based in New York that tackles the largely invisible crisis of deportation. This grassroots network was formed two decades ago by the Shahani Family, Subhash Kateel, and Maria Muentes, who aimed to break the silence and isolation experienced by families facing deportation. Families for Freedom emerged in the aftermath of 9/11 and the increased surveillance of Arab and Muslim communities, advocating for immigrant rights and challenging the destructive immigration enforcement policies.
Families for Freedom provides crucial support and education through grassroots leadership and community organizing. Their experienced leaders understand the intricacies of the deportation system and offer practical education programs to immigrant families, including training on legal rights, financial literacy, and workshops for detainees. They also engage in proactive campaigning, lobbying for policy and legislative changes at the local, state, and national levels to roll back the damaging effects of the enforcement regime.
Join Families for Freedom in their mission to create a more just and humane immigration system where human rights and justice prevail
