Famous Scientists is an online biographical encyclopedia developed as a project of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences. It brings together profiles and photographs of scientists and specialists from Russia and other countries, helping readers explore the people and institutions involved in research and education. Users can search biographies by name, scientific field, region, or alphabetical listing, and browse sections on scientific schools, the history of science, universities, departments, dissertations, and emerging research areas.

Registered users may submit and edit biographical information online. Submissions are reviewed by editors before publication. The encyclopedia’s biographies are also published in an annually updated print volume, which has included information about researchers, academy members, Nobel Prize laureates, and recipients of government awards. The site invites scientists and institutions to contribute biographies and photographs; it states that publication of materials is free. The project aims to broaden scientific connections and improve awareness of research developments across regions. It also provides information about author guidelines, registration, and certificates associated with participation.
