About © FAO-AdriaMed
The FAO-AdriaMed Project is a pivotal initiative under the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, dedicated to fostering scientific cooperation for responsible fisheries management in the Adriatic Sea. Established in 1999 and supported by a variety of funding sources including the Italian Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Forestry Policies, and the European Commission, this project unites Albania, Croatia, Italy, Montenegro, and Slovenia in a collaborative effort to enhance shared fishery resources management aligned with the Code of Conduct for Responsible Fisheries.
Through targeted activities, such as data collection, surveys, and stakeholder training, the FAO-AdriaMed Project aims to improve the understanding of fishery dynamics and promote sustainable practices in the region. Key objectives include establishing a unified knowledge base for fisheries management, reinforcing coordination among national institutions, and facilitating a network for exchanging scientific expertise. The project's long-term vision is to ensure that responsible fisheries practices contribute to the ecological and economic wellbeing of the Adriatic Sea and its communities.
