FAPAS, the Portuguese Association for Biodiversity Conservation, is a national, nonprofit environmental organization with extensive experience in nature conservation. Based in Vila Nova de Gaia, it works to protect biodiversity and promote awareness of Portugal’s natural heritage. Its activities cover wildlife and plants, forests, protected areas and land management, with several locations under its care, including the Mindelo Ornithological Reserve and areas in Ferreira do Zêzere, Figueira de Castelo Rodrigo, Ponte da Barca and Vila Nova de Gaia.

FAPAS offers educational activities for schools, teacher training and other environmental learning opportunities. Its programs include nature walks, birdwatching, exhibitions and projects addressing topics such as climate change, forests and biodiversity. The organization also shares information through news, press releases, a biodiversity almanac, a nature magazine and other publications, available alongside items through its online shop.

People can support FAPAS by becoming individual or corporate members, volunteering or making donations. The association also organizes events and training sessions, and advocates for stronger policies and legal protections for nature and biodiversity in Portugal.
