Friedreich Ataxia Research Association New Zealand (FARA NZ) is a volunteer-led charity supporting people with Friedreich ataxia (FA), a debilitating, life-shortening condition. Based in New Zealand, the organisation works closely with FARA Australia and maintains links with FARA in the United States. Its mission is to help find a cure through fundraising, while advocating for and supporting people with FA and their whānau.
FARA NZ connects members with a supportive community and provides information about FA, research, support services, and resources, including exercise and physiotherapy guidance. Its flagship fundraiser, Lend Us Some Muscle, invites people across New Zealand to get active each May and raise funds for research; other fundraising events and campaigns also contribute to this work.
