FarmBuddies is an independent, volunteer-run, not-for-profit social enterprise founded in 2008 to support Social Care Farming in South East England. Social Care Farming uses farming activities for therapeutic, social and educational purposes, offering a natural pathway to wellbeing for people aged 9 to 90 with mild or moderate additional needs.
FarmBuddies provides administrative support across the service and helps connect participants with suitable farms. Its free Find-a-Farm service is available to parents, teachers and others seeking a placement. The organisation also offers free information and one-hour visits for farmers interested in providing Social Care Farming, alongside support for practising farmers through shared information, enquiries and regional WhatsApp groups.
The network spans more than 100 sites across Kent, East Sussex, West Sussex, Surrey, Hampshire and Berkshire, giving many people access to a farm within around 30 minutes’ travel. Programmes may involve 12 weekly visits, and FarmBuddies reports positive feedback from families, schools and other participants. It also provides free guides for volunteers, parents and farmers, with printed copies available on request.
