FARMERHAUS is a South African restaurant and hospitality destination in Groß-Umstadt, Germany, welcoming guests since 1965. Founded by Namibian farmer and adventurer Alfred Schodlok and his wife Ursula, it brings the spirit and culinary diversity of southern Africa to the region. Its cuisine draws on South African traditions, including Cape cooking’s blend of influences from India, Southeast Asia, the Netherlands and France. Guests can enjoy dinner in an atmospheric setting with African-inspired décor, selected spices and wines, and views across the surrounding vineyards. Wednesday offerings include “African Flavours,” a sequence of ten small courses, with a vegetarian option available by advance reservation.
The FARMERHAUS experience also includes the FARMERHAUS Lodge, a boutique hotel in Groß-Umstadt featuring African lodge ambience and modern design, about 1,600 metres from the restaurant, with shuttle service. The venue offers private events and restaurant-and-lodge packages. Gift vouchers can be used for dining, a lodge suite or combined packages, and are available as a mailed card or PDF.
