About Federation of American Scientists
The Federation of American Scientists (FAS) is a nonprofit organization working to make the world safer by bringing science, technology, ideas, and talent to bear on major public challenges. Founded in 1945, FAS aims to embed evidence, innovation, and practical experience in government and public discourse to help build a healthy, safe, prosperous, and equitable society.
Its work spans climate and energy, emerging technology, global risk, government capacity, and state and local innovation. FAS publishes research, policy memos, reports, and analysis, and develops policy ideas intended to help decision-makers address issues such as extreme heat, energy policy, artificial intelligence, and institutional effectiveness. Through the Day One Project, it connects people with training, tools, and networks to develop and advance policy ideas, including through accelerators, memos, ideation campaigns, and idea challenges.
FAS also supports the science and technology policy community through fellowships, a Talent Hub, and fiscal sponsorship for emerging initiatives. Its programs and publications aim to connect evidence and expertise with practical policy action across government and society.
