About FASA
FASA, the Franchise Association South Africa, holds the distinction of being the oldest internationally recognized Franchise Association on the continent. Established in 1979, FASA has played a pivotal role in promoting ethical franchising in South Africa. The Association was formed by industry pioneers, including well-known brands such as Wimpy, Steers, and Milky Lane, who aimed to set ethical standards, foster networking opportunities, and promote the franchising business model.
Over the years, FASA has focused on various areas of development, in line with socio-economic, legal, and political shifts. Their mandate involves promoting franchising as a viable business format, providing guidelines for sound franchise schemes, and applying a Code of Ethics to maintain international standards. In addition, FASA strives to nurture entrepreneurship, contribute to skills transfer, and create job opportunities, particularly in the small business sector.
They collect and disseminate valuable information on franchising, provide education on franchise-related subjects, and represent the sector in matters of legislation and government. As pioneers in adopting a Code of Ethics and Business Practices, FASA continues to play a pivotal role in protecting, promoting, and developing ethical franchising across all sectors in South Africa, with a specific focus on transformation
