Fat Farmers

Fat Farmers is a brand dedicated to inspiring and encouraging farmers and rural communities to prioritize their health and well-being through physical activity. It all began in 2010 when Greg Hean, Ben Wundersitz, and Scott Hoyle, farmers from Maitland on Yorke Peninsula, SA, decided to join a local gym. Being over 40, they jokingly referred to themselves as "Fat Farmers" since they were no longer playing footy. The name stuck, and soon other communities joined in.

The brand has a mission to promote fitness among farmers and rural dwellers, and since 2015, the Fat Farmers concept has expanded beyond Yorke Peninsula, connecting with farmers all across South Australia. Today, Fat Farmer groups or teams can be found throughout the state, catering to a diverse range of fitness levels and ages, from school children to retirees. Each group has a dedicated volunteer Team Coordinator, who plays a vital role in organizing activities and facilitates communication.

In September 2021, Fat Farmers became an Incorporated Association with its own Constitution and Board to ensure good governance. The brand relies on the generous support of sponsors, including diamond and platinum partners, to continue its mission. For those interested in joining the fitness groups, the brand provides local contacts via their website. Stay connected with Fat Farmers through their social media channels for updates and inspiration to prioritize health and well-being in rural communities.
