Fauna Rescue

Fauna Rescue of South Australia Inc. is a dedicated volunteer-based organization focused on rescuing, rehabilitating, and releasing native wildlife across South Australia. Established in 1988 by a passionate group of 10 individuals, it has now grown to be the largest wildlife rescue group in the region, boasting over 400 active volunteers. The organization operates a 24-hour wildlife hotline, responding to over 15,000 inquiries each year for sick or injured animals ranging from koalas and kangaroos to a variety of birds and reptiles.

Fauna Rescue emphasizes a commitment to soft release practices, ensuring that animals are returned as close as possible to their original habitats. The organization relies on the generosity of the public for funding, as it receives no government assistance. In addition to rescue operations, Fauna Rescue offers educational talks to schools and clubs, raising awareness about wildlife conservation. Their ethos and extensive training programs empower volunteers to provide essential care and support to injured wildlife, making a significant positive impact on local ecosystems.
