FBA is a natural resource management organisation working to protect and improve the environment of central Queensland. Formed in 1997 as the Fitzroy Basin Association, it has a long-standing role bringing people together to support better land and water management. With more than 40 staff across Emerald, Gladstone, Rockhampton and Theodore, FBA works throughout the Fitzroy region, from the coastline to areas north of Nebo, west of Emerald and south of Wandoan.
FBA partners with land managers, First Nations peoples, communities, industry and investors to turn environmental knowledge into practical results. Its guidance and support address soil health, erosion, sustainable grazing and productive land management. The organisation also works to improve water quality, restore streambanks and reduce sediment and nutrient runoff into the Fitzroy River system, which flows to the Great Barrier Reef. Its ecosystem projects help conserve habitats and native species, including threatened wildlife. Through expert advice, tailored solutions and collaborative projects, FBA aims to build resilient landscapes and a healthier future for both the region and the people who care for it.
