About The Foreign Correspondents’ Club
The Foreign Correspondents’ Club is a renowned press club that was established in 1943 in Japanese-occupied China during World War II. Originally based in Chongqing, a city under the control of nationalist leader Chiang Kai-shek, the club followed the unfolding events and subsequently relocated to Nanjing and then to Broadway Mansions in Shanghai as the power struggle between the Nationalists and Mao Zedong’s Communists intensified. In 1949, after the Nationalists retreated to Taiwan and the People's Republic of China was established, the club finally settled in its current home in Hong Kong.
Over the years, the club has become a symbol of press freedom, striving to promote and facilitate journalism of the highest standard in Hong Kong and the region. They defend the rights of journalists and correspondents while providing resources and information to the community.
