About FDI-Portugal
The Federação de Desportos de Inverno de Portugal | Covilhã is the Portuguese authority for winter sports in Portugal. Established in 1992, their main objective is to promote, regulate, and oversee winter sports in the country. They govern a variety of disciplines including Alpine Skiing, Cross-Country Skiing, Freestyle Skiing, Snowboarding, Curling, Ice Hockey, Bobsleigh, Skeleton, Luge, Figure Skating, and Speed Skating.
As a non-profit organization with the status of a sports public utility, FDI-Portugal is dedicated to fostering the development of winter sports in Portugal through education, competition, and cultural initiatives. Since January 2016, they have also been responsible for the management of the Youth Hostel in Serra da Estrela. With a rich history dating back to 1928, when the Ski Club of Portugal regulated ski competitions, the need arose for a governing body to represent and regulate skiing in the country.
In 1993, the Federação Portuguesa de Esqui became a member of the International Ski Federation (FIS) and the Olympic Committee of Portugal
