Fear Free

Fear Free is an education and certification organization dedicated to preventing and alleviating fear, anxiety, and stress in pets. Founded by veterinarian Dr. Marty Becker, it promotes science-based, behavior-led approaches that support animals’ emotional as well as physical wellbeing. Its programs help the people who care for pets create calmer experiences and safer working conditions.

Fear Free offers online certification programs for veterinary professionals, trainers, groomers, pet sitters, and boarding and daycare staff. Veterinary practices can pursue facility-level certification by implementing Fear Free standards across their teams and operations. The organization also provides courses, webinars, articles, podcasts, and other resources through its Education Library, with some content available to members. Shelter, rescue, and animal welfare workers and volunteers can access the Fear Free Shelter Program at no cost.

For pet parents, Fear Free shares guidance on topics including anxiety, enrichment, travel, and safety, and offers a directory to find certified professionals and practices. Membership options, professional resources, and Fear Free merchandise are also available.
