Feather Identifier

Feather Identifier is an AI-powered tool for birdwatchers, naturalists, and anyone curious about feathers. Users can photograph a feather to receive an identification of its type and the bird it came from, with results designed to appear within seconds. The service is available through an app and a free online identifier, making it useful both at home and in the field.

Beyond photo identification, Feather Identifier offers a visual encyclopedia of bird species and their feathers. Its entries cover feather anatomy, including type, shape, size, texture, colour, and barb structure, alongside information about each bird’s family, habitat, range, migration, and nesting. Field notes describe similar species, conservation status, cultural history, and ecological roles, helping users understand the context behind a find. The site also shares recent community identifications and examples of feathers from species such as eagles, owls, ducks, and turkeys. Its identification process guides users from taking a clear photo in natural light to reviewing an AI-generated result and related field-guide information.
