About Feedipedia
Feedipedia is an online encyclopedia of animal feeds that provides comprehensive information on nearly 1400 livestock feeds from around the world. It is a joint project of INRAE, CIRAD, AFZ, and FAO, with the aim of offering extension and development workers, farmers, researchers, and policymakers the latest scientific information on feed resources. The platform covers a wide range of feed categories, including forage plants, cereal and grass forages, legume forages, animal by-products, minerals, and more.
Each feed resource datasheet includes details such as feed names, descriptions, feeding recommendations for various livestock species, composition and nutritive values, illustrations, distribution information, and potential constraints. By providing global knowledge on feed resources, Feedipedia contributes to the development and use of innovative and appropriate feeding options for sustainable livestock production. It is particularly valuable in emerging and developing countries, where local feed resources are often under-utilized due to lack of information
