The Far East Geological Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences’ Far Eastern Branch (FEGI FEB RAS) is a research institution established in 1959 to advance geological understanding of the Russian Far East and its mineral resources. Combining established Russian geological traditions with modern technologies, the Institute conducts fundamental and applied research on the geology and metallogeny of East Asia and the adjoining Pacific basin. Its work covers lithosphere dynamics, magmatism and metamorphism in the continent–ocean transition zone, mineral deposits in different geodynamic settings, and environmental geology and interactions among Earth’s systems.
FEGI operates a well-equipped Multiple Access Analytical Center, offering scientific analysis using modern instruments and specialized techniques. The Institute collaborates with Russian and international research organizations, including partners in Japan, China, Vietnam and Europe, and organizes scientific conferences. It also supports geological education through university teaching, career guidance, postgraduate study in Earth sciences and opportunities to defend doctoral and candidate theses. Its research contributes to scientific knowledge and the socioeconomic development of the Russian Far East.
