FEPODABES

The Portuguese Federation of Voluntary Blood Donors (FEPODABES) is a nonprofit association founded in 1982 to strengthen voluntary, unpaid blood donation across Portugal. Recognized as an Association of Public Utility since 1996, it brings together and supports donor associations, groups and local centres, helping extend their reach throughout the country. Its work focuses on promoting solidarity, informing the public about the continuing need for blood, and encouraging regular donations so that blood is available when needed.

FEPODABES represents its affiliated organizations in relevant discussions with public services and cooperates with government bodies, including Portugal’s blood and transplantation institute. It also provides information for donors and the public, covering topics such as clinical screening, blood compatibility, reserves, bone marrow donation and the donation process. The federation shares news, practical guidance and updates through its website and related communication channels, and promotes awareness through community partnerships and outreach. Its cooperation includes Portuguese civic and health organizations as well as an international donor association in Guinea-Bissau.
