About FerroSilva
As a leading brand in the steel industry, FerroSilva is on a mission to enable energy-efficient and emission-free steel production, contributing to a world without fossil fuel emissions. Their innovative process, called the FerroSilva DRI process, allows for the production of 50,000 to 3 million tons of steel per year. This process requires only 0.
015-0. 9 TWh of electricity per year, which is approximately 90% lower than hydrogen alternatives, and 0. 18-10.
5 TWh of biomass per year, accounting for just 0. 3-19% of unused biomass. By revolutionizing the steel industry, FerroSilva achieves a significant reduction in carbon dioxide emissions, ranging from 150,000 to 9 million tons per year when compared to traditional blast furnace production methods.
This reduction is equivalent to the emissions from 125 million to 6,250 million miles driven by gasoline-powered cars or 125,000 to 6. 25 million cars driving 1,000 miles per year. FerroSilva's process for producing iron sponge results in a decrease of 845 kg of carbon dioxide per ton of steel when the biogenic carbon dioxide is captured and turned into new products or e-fuels.
This is a remarkable improvement compared to traditional ore-based production with blast furnaces, which emits approximately three tons of carbon dioxide per ton of steel. Currently planning their first facility, capable of producing 50,000 tons of iron sponge, FerroSilva aims to make a significant impact by reducing carbon emissions in the steel industry. The potential savings gain even more traction if FerroSilva's process were to replace Sweden's entire ore-based steel production of 3 million tons of pig iron, resulting in an additional reduction of 9 million tons of carbon dioxide.
With its focus on resource efficiency and the utilization of biomass and biogenic carbon dioxide, the FerroSilva process offers a higher value for biomass compared to conventional heat and electricity production. Moreover, the process integrates well with existing industrial infrastructure, making it both economically and environmentally competitive. FerroSilva is committed to leading the way in the steel industry by creating a sustainable future and reducing global carbon emissions
