Straattheaterfestival BuitenGewoon

BuitenGewoon is a free-admission street-theatre festival held annually in Doetinchem, Gelderland, shortly before the summer holidays. Organized by Stichting Straattheater Doetinchem, the festival brings national and international performance acts into the city, turning public spaces into stages for shared artistic experiences. Its program features surprising, innovative, moving and astonishing street theatre, including acts such as acrobatics and unusual visual performances. BuitenGewoon presents work that audiences may not have expected to see, inviting residents and visitors to enjoy the arts together and celebrate the start of summer.

The festival also shares news and information about its performances and organization. To mark 30 editions, BuitenGewoon collaborated with the local library on an exhibition at ’t Brewinc, revisiting the festival’s history and memories. The organization welcomes public support to help keep the event possible, and offers ways to get involved through its cultural business club, ACCU, and its Friends group. In 2026, it reported a substantial municipal subsidy reduction and appealed for support to continue the festival.
