The National Federation of Families is a leading family-run organization that connects over 120 state and local affiliates, as well as national partners. Their primary focus is on the well-being of children and youth facing emotional, behavioral, or mental health needs and substance use challenges, along with their families. Established in 1989 in Arlington, Virginia, the organization was founded by a dedicated group of 18 individuals determined to bring about positive change in the system.

Members of the National Federation come from diverse backgrounds, representing various income levels, education, geographical locations, races, ethnicities, and religions. Their shared concern is addressing emotional, behavioral, or mental health needs and substance use challenges that affect all types of families, including single and two-parent households, birth, adoptive, kinship, and foster families. The National Federation actively works towards the development and implementation of policies, legislation, funding mechanisms, and service systems that empower families.
