The Federal Geographic Information Center (FGIC) is the United Arab Emirates’ official authority for coordinating and governing the national geospatial information sector. Established under UAE Federal Law No. 5 of 2019 and reporting to the Cabinet, the Centre works with federal and local entities to develop shared policies, standards, and procedures for geographic data. Its work supports informed decision-making while helping manage, distribute, and protect the confidentiality and integrity of geospatial information.
FGIC provides a range of national geospatial resources and initiatives. These include official maps in Arabic and English, the UAE National Spatial Data Infrastructure platform for accessing foundational geographic information, and satellite, aerial, and drone imagery services. The Centre also coordinates geodesy and the development of a unified national reference framework. Its Feature Catalogue standardizes definitions and symbols for common geographic features, while the Union Atlas presents the UAE’s milestones and key sectors through data and geospatial technology. Through these services and partnerships, FGIC aims to strengthen the country’s geospatial infrastructure in line with international standards.
