About Foundation for Human Rights
The Foundation for Human Rights (FHR) is a prominent non-profit organization dedicated to promoting and protecting human rights in South Africa. Established in 1996 through a partnership between the European Union and the South African government, FHR supports civil society organizations (CSOs) to enhance awareness and implementation of the rights enshrined in the South African Constitution.
With a focus on vulnerability, the FHR operates several impactful programs. These include the Socio-Economic Justice for All (SEJA) initiative, research on the Unfinished Business of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC), and a collaboration with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). The foundation engages in grant-making, capacity-building, advocacy, and policy development to empower marginalized communities and promote social justice.
