About FIELD A Journal
FIELD is a journal dedicated to socially-engaged art criticism, exploring the evolving relationship between art and society. Launched in 2015 and founded by Grant Kester, FIELD addresses the emergence of new artistic practices aimed at promoting political, social, and cultural transformation globally. The journal highlights collaborative works by artists and collectives across North, South, and Central America, Europe, Africa, and Asia, all united by a desire to redefine the intersections of art, urbanism, environmentalism, and social justice.
Each issue features a diverse editorial collective that includes scholars, artists, and curators, facilitating a dialogue about contemporary cultural practices. FIELD seeks to challenge traditional definitions of art and criticism, pushing boundaries to engage with broader social forces. With publications emphasizing interdisciplinary analysis, the journal aims to fill the gap left by mainstream art publications, offering nuanced insights into the critical issues at play within socially engaged art today.
