About Field House Museum
Field House Museum is a historic brand that offers a unique and informative experience for visitors. Designated as a National Historic Landmark in 2007, it is not only the first historic house museum in St. Louis but also listed on the National Register of Historic Places and named a City of St.
Louis Landmark. The museum is owned and operated by the Eugene Field House Foundation, a charitable organization. The Field House Museum aims to preserve, interpret, and promote the history and legacy of Eugene Field, known as The Poet of Childhood.
Visitors can explore the childhood home of Eugene Field and view Field family memorabilia and other artifacts in a nineteenth-century domestic setting. The museum also educates visitors about Eugene Field's father, Roswell Martin Field, who played a significant role in the events leading to the landmark Supreme Court decision in Scott v. Sandford.
Additionally, the museum showcases a collection of toys, reflecting Eugene Field's interest in collecting children's toys and dolls. Open Wednesday to Sunday, the Field House Museum welcomes visitors to immerse themselves in history and gain a deeper understanding of Eugene Field's life, works, and the times he lived in. Admission fees vary with special rates for AAA members and children.
