About Filbert Street Garden
Filbert Street Garden is a nonprofit community garden and public urban agro farm park serving Curtis Bay and surrounding neighborhoods in South Baltimore. Located in a highly industrialized area, it provides welcoming green space while bringing together urban agriculture, recreation, education, food access, and environmental stewardship. The garden supports community food sovereignty through locally grown produce, eggs, and pantry support, and offers opportunities to learn about gardening, food systems, pollinators, animals, and urban wildlife.
Its programs include seasonal classes, hands-on workshops, community events, volunteer projects, community garden plots, and the Youth Stewards Program, which introduces young people to practical skills and green workforce opportunities. Visitors can explore the grounds and animals during open hours, while the Honey House supports learning, produce processing, and honey harvesting. The garden also nurtures native birds, pollinators, bats, and other urban wildlife, and is home to Maryland’s largest community garden apiary.
In partnership with Project WAVES, it provides free public Wi-Fi through FilbertNet. Donations, volunteering, and event participation help sustain its programs and neighborhood services
