The National Film Preservation Foundation (NFPF) is a nonprofit organization established by the U.S. Congress to safeguard and promote America's film heritage. Founded in November 1997 with the generous backing of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and The Film Foundation, the NFPF is dedicated to preserving American films that are at risk of being lost without public intervention.

The organization implements various grant programs to assist archives, libraries, museums, and educational institutions in conserving and providing access to historically significant films. These initiatives include Basic Preservation Grants, Matching Grants, and Avant-Garde Masters Grants. The NFPF also collaborates on projects that highlight the importance of film preservation, resulting in valuable resources such as the award-winning Treasures DVD series and comprehensive guides for scholars and film enthusiasts.

By December 2024, the NFPF's initiatives will encompass a diverse range of 2,856 culturally significant films across all 50 states, enhancing the public's access to America’s cinematic history.
