About Film Threat
Film Threat is a brand that aims to champion up and coming indie filmmakers, while also speaking truth to the entertainment industry. It originally started as a xeroxed fanzine in 1985 by Chris Gore and Andre Seewood, with only 500 copies of the first issue printed and distributed on the campus of Wayne State University. Gore and Seewood gained a reputation as disruptors by playing pranks on the film department, even faking Gore's death to promote a film screening.
Gore continued to grow the magazine, eventually moving it to Los Angeles in 1989. In 1991, Larry Flynt acquired Film Threat, leading to the split into two magazines. After various changes in leadership, the rights reverted back to Chris Gore, who launched the Film Threat website in 1996.
The website expanded to offer reviews, news, and extensive coverage of independent films and film festivals. In 2010, Mark Bell took over as the head of the site. With a rich history and a dedication to indie filmmakers, Film Threat continues to be a valuable resource for the film industry
