FINCAPES is a dynamic 5. 5-year project based in Indonesia, funded by the Government of Canada. This initiative addresses critical issues related to climate change, flood risks, and biodiversity conservation through collaboration between the University of Waterloo and local Indonesian universities.
The project is built on three core components: enhancing the capacity of communities to adapt to and mitigate the financial impacts of flood risks, promoting nature-based solutions for peatland and mangrove restoration, and advancing gender equity alongside biodiversity conservation efforts. Additionally, FINCAPES aims to strengthen national governance regarding climate change by fostering gender-responsive research and developing climate finance policies. With a presence across various Indonesian communities and cities, FINCAPES actively engages in projects that drive innovation and sustainability.
By forging partnerships and exploring synergies, the project not only addresses immediate environmental challenges but also lays the groundwork for long-term resilience and equity in dealing with climate impacts
