FinEst Centre for Smart Cities is an international research and development center dedicated to enhancing the quality of life in urban areas. With a focus on creating smart, human-centric, and resilient environments, our mission is to develop smarter cities for people through actionable research in Finland and Estonia. We are driven by our passion for improving the lives of urban residents and firmly believe in a future where cities prioritize the needs and well-being of their inhabitants.

At the heart of our work are exceptional research and development teams from Tallinn University of Technology and Aalto University. We foster collaboration and knowledge-sharing by organizing engaging events and thought-provoking discussions that bring together researchers, city officials, residents, and municipal leaders.

We are an independent organization under Tallinn University of Technology, founded in 2019 by Tallinn University of Technology, Aalto University, Forum Virium Helsinki, and the Estonian Ministry of Economic Affairs and Communications.

With over 100 academic publications published annually, we invest over €15 million in the development and piloting of new solutions between 2020 and 2027. We are involved in numerous international and pan-European research and innovation projects, and our goal is to develop and implement 20 novel smart solutions in at least 30 European cities by 2030.
