Fino Valley Wines is a renowned brand in New Zealand, exporting their premium wines worldwide. Nestled in the Henderson Valley of Auckland, this family-owned winery has a rich winemaking history spanning over 100 years. Established in 1966 by Croatian immigrants Ivan and Milka Tvrdeich, Fino Valley Wines has grown from humble beginnings to become one of the oldest wineries in Auckland.
The winery's journey started with the purchase of a parcel of land in the rural Henderson Valley, where an old Ponsonby house became their home and the original homestead still stands today. Initially, the land was used as a dairy farm, followed by strawberry fields and peach orchards. However, it was Ivan's familiarity and experience with grape cultivation in Croatia that led them to plant their first vines.
The hard work paid off, and with their winemaking expertise, they produced high-quality wines from basic grape varieties. Over the years, Fino Valley Wines has adapted to changing consumer tastes, focusing on producing Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir from their vineyards in Hawke's Bay. They have also delved into fortified wines, particularly Port-style wines, as they capture the fascination of modern wine enthusiasts.
Today, Fino Valley Wines exports to major markets around the world, including the United Kingdom, United States, China, India, Australia, and the Asia/South Pacific region. Their winery in Auckland has a production capacity of over 250,000 liters per year, with the home-block vineyard in Henderson Valley remaining highly valuable.
