Fire Tower Trail Races is a trail-running event organized to help participants pursue their goals in a safe, welcoming, and accessible setting. Designed for both newcomers and experienced runners, the event offers a small, old-school atmosphere, generous cutoff times, and a relatively flat course, alongside food, camping, and friendly support. The races take place at St. Croix State Park in Minnesota, leading runners through forest, along rivers, and across prairie in the scenic Kettle River valley.
Participants can choose from four distances: 100K, 50K, 35K, or 11K. The 50K and 100K routes include a climb to the top of the park’s historic fire tower; 100K runners make the climb twice. A “vertigo option” is available for participants who cannot or prefer not to climb all the way up. The event promotes an encouraging, goal-focused experience and invites runners to discover Minnesota’s largest state park. The next listed race is October 2, 2027, with registration scheduled to open in March 2027.
