About First Draft
First Draft, a nonprofit coalition that started in June 2015, provides practical and ethical guidance on finding, verifying, and publishing content sourced from the social web. Over the years, it has expanded its reach, forming an international Partner Network of newsrooms, universities, platforms, and civil society organizations. In October 2017, First Draft joined the esteemed Shorenstein Center for Media, Politics, and Public Policy at Harvardโs Kennedy School, further enhancing its impact.
Driven by its mission to combat information disorder, First Draft explores the spread and threat of misinformation on closed messaging apps. In 2019, it became an independent 501(c)(3) non-profit, raising its own funding and establishing its Sydney bureau to serve the APAC region. While First Draft announced its closure in June 2022, its mission continues at the Information Futures Lab at Brown University.
This website, hosted by the Internet Archive, is the last update from January 2023. Through its impressive work, First Draft has made a significant impact and owes its success to the contributions of its dedicated partners and individuals
