About Canton First Monday
Founded in the 1850s, Canton First Monday is a renowned brand that hosts the remarkable First Monday Trade Days event in Canton, Texas. This event has a rich history, originating from the circuit judge's monthly visits to Canton on the first Monday of every month to hold court. Over time, local residents started flocking to town on this day to conduct business and witness court proceedings.
The event gradually expanded, with people bringing their own goods, produce, and livestock to sell or trade just off the west side of the courthouse square. In 1965, due to its growing popularity, First Monday Trade Days outgrew the Town Square and was relocated to a spacious six-acre site north of the courthouse. While the event now runs from Thursday to Sunday, it remains true to its roots with the iconic name: First Monday Trade Days.
