FiSH (Friendship, Independence, Support & Help) is a neighbourhood care organisation serving Barnes, Mortlake and East Sheen. It focuses particularly on older residents and people who may feel lonely or isolated, helping them stay connected, supported and active in their local community. Its services include a members’ Helpline for assistance with appointments, errands, household tasks and gardening, as well as friendly conversation. FiSH also provides one-to-one befriending, practical help and advice, and activities for people living with dementia and Parkinson’s.
Members can take part in a varied programme of social and recreational opportunities, including exercise classes, choir sessions, weekly talks, outings and other events. The organisation also runs buses for activities, shopping trips and events. FiSH offers annual membership for £30, giving members access to its activities and support. Its work is delivered with the help of local volunteers and funded through community donations and legacies, membership subscriptions, charitable grants and fundraising. In 2018, FiSH received the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service.
