FishLab AS is a Norwegian laboratory focused on clinical chemistry for fish. Its work aims to support fish health in Norwegian aquaculture through precise analysis of biomarkers that reveal fish physiology, stress levels, hormone status and vitamin status. The laboratory tests fish samples from blood, tissue and feces using LC-MS/MS, a method designed to provide accurate measurements of hormones and related compounds.
Its services include analysis of cortisol to assess stress, testosterone to monitor the onset of sexual maturation, vitamin D to evaluate nutritional and immune health, and thyroxine (T4) and cortisol to provide insight into smoltification and readiness for seawater. Some fecal sampling can be carried out without killing the fish, using equipment supplied by FishLab; plasma samples should be collected by authorized fish-health personnel. FishLab also participates in research and development projects, contributing analytical expertise to studies of vitamin D and hormone metabolism in Atlantic salmon.
