About FishTEDB
FishTEDB is a specialized collective database of transposable elements identified in complete fish genomes. Created to support research into this important but previously underexplored area, it brings together information from published fish genome sequences and organizes detected elements by species and type. The resource reflects the diversity of transposable elements, including retrotransposons and DNA transposons, which can influence gene activity, genome structure, and evolution.
FishTEDB serves researchers studying fish genomics, evolutionary biology, and model organisms such as zebrafish, as well as species that offer insight into vertebrate evolution. Its website provides tools and resources to explore the collection, including species browsing, search, BLAST, GetORF, and HMMER functions, alongside references and news. A species phylogenetic tree presents the organisms represented in the database and the numbers of different transposon types identified in each. FishTEDB describes its current release as version 2.0, building on version 1.0 with additional species. By consolidating these data and analysis options, the database helps make fish transposable-element information more accessible for comparative research.
