FITKO (Föderale IT-Kooperation) is the central coordination and networking body for digital government in Germany. Based in Frankfurt am Main, it brings together the former business and coordination offices of the IT Planning Council and works with federal, state and local authorities. While the IT Planning Council sets the political and strategic direction for public-sector digitalisation, FITKO supports decision-making and coordinates the implementation of its resolutions. It identifies opportunities and challenges, presents neutral approaches, aligns responsibilities and monitors progress.
FITKO’s work spans federal coordination, digital strategy, committee support, product management and the development of shared IT architecture and standards. Its portfolio includes initiatives and services such as the German Administrative Cloud, FIM, FIT-Connect, GovData, the eGov-Campus, the Federal Information Management services and the Marketplace for digital public services. The organisation aims to create the conditions for effective, future-ready administration and better digital services for residents and businesses. Its approach emphasises cooperation, expertise, transparency, neutrality and knowledge-sharing across Germany’s federal system.
